The Non-Toxic Means to Pest Management

Admin on August 04, 2015

A growing body of evidence now shows that the widespread use of the pesticides “has severe effects on a range of organisms that provide ecosystem services like pollination and natural pest control, as well as on biodiversity,” says a recent report issued by the highly influential European Academies Science Advisory Council. In their April 2015 report, the Council acknowledges that all pesticides involve a balancing act between the desired effect on food production and the inevitable risk of collateral damage to non-target species and the environment…yet they go on to report that a group of pesticides believed to contribute to mass deaths of honeybees is probably more damaging to ecosystems than previously thought. They also questioned whether those pesticides have any place in sustainable agriculture.

The use of the Mars air curtain has long been a strong and economical physical barrier partner in Integrated Pest Management, a technique to remove or limit pests using non-chemical approaches. The research team at Mars Air knows the use of an air curtain is a strong contributor to create less toxic environments and reflects a widespread understanding for the need to diminish or eliminate the use of potentially health- and environmentally-hazardous chemicals. Foodservice and educational facilities have long been early embracers of the air curtain for pest management with zero toxicity and we will continue to expose how other industries adopt and use air curtains for their pest management challenges.
